Ironbark are thrilled to announce that we’ve teamed up with ICLEI Oceania and Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE) to develop the most comprehensive local government and climate change survey Australian councils and communities have ever witnessed! We're inviting Australian council and community stakeholders to take part in the survey to better understand local government climate change actions, policies, strategies and targets. The survey will identify successful case studies across Australia and help...

The operation of buildings can often cost more than it should due to systems not functioning to their full potential. Fine tuning building systems can significantly reduce costs. Sometimes the solution is as simple as installing a lighting timer and sometimes it’s as complex as a computer software program to manage HVAC settings. Come along to our free Building Optimisation webinar on Monday July 25 11am-12pm AEST to listen and talk to council staff members who have reduced energy costs by as...

In 2014 Ironbark and ICLEI Oceania surveyed hundreds of councils around Australia. A key result was that 65% of councils said they don’t have a good system for managing sustainability outcomes for buildings. In order to address this issue, Ironbark has launched the Sustainable Buildings Benchmarking Project so councils can see how their buildings compare to best practice. The report will compare similar facilities using consumption data so that councils can identify and prioritise ways to...

Large facilities such as aquatic centres are under pressure to be more energy efficient. A key flagship project for many such sites is cogeneration. Moreland City Council recently commissioned a case study that compared one of its existing cogeneration systems to high efficiency boilers linked to a photovoltaic system. These results were enlightening and will inform how Moreland generates heat and electricity for aquatic centres in the future. See here for outcomes of the study and tips for...

This is not aimed at one or two facilities but up to hundreds of buildings in each council area. The program aims to collectively tender energy and water efficiency programs on hundreds of buildings to get the best project outcomes and the best cost for councils.

Risks are an integral part of any significant decision. Every large project, every technology, every decision carries risk. However in many councils risks are, if not largely ignored, being handled using simplistic methods. One of the more powerful tools for analysing risk and uncertainty is Monte Carlo Analysis (MCA), a statistical framework that is widely used in professions such as engineering, investment and planning.
