One Planet Councils

One Planet Councils allows Australian local governments to assess their sustainability programs against a simple concept: do we consume more or less than our share of one planet's worth of resources?

Ironbark Sustainability has teamed up with Australian councils, One Planet Living, BioRegional, and the Victorian Local Governance Association to introduce One Planet Councils within Australia.

The framework and program allows councils to compare their operational footprint with other councils around the world. It addresses all major aspects of environmental, social and economic sustainability. One Planet Councils is specifically designed for councils and is: 

• Simple
• Flexible
• Inclusive
• Proven to work
• Allows benchmarking locally and internationally
• Includes full program support or can be developed internally without external assistance
• Covers all aspects of sustainability 

Becoming a One Planet Council involves developing and implementing strategies to measure and cut council consumption to its share of one planet’s worth of resources. It allows local governments to set a clear vision and shared goals across council for sustainability strategy, policy and operations.
