NSW Energy Savings Scheme![]() Funding Type: Certificate scheme Summary: The Energy Savings Scheme is a NSW based energy efficiency scheme designed to create a financial incentive to reduce the consumption of electricity through energy savings activities. NSW councils that save energy by installing, improving or replacing energy savings equipment can gain financial incentives by participating in the Scheme. When you invest in reducing their energy use, energy savings certificates, known as ESCs, are created which can then be sold to mandatory scheme participants (electricity retailers and suppliers). Activities such as installing energy efficiency street lighting and council building retrofits will likely create ESCs. For street lighting changeovers, savings can be as much as $100 per light. Ironbark Sustainability works with NSW councils to create, administer and sell ESCs. We are one of only two organisations currently accredited to create ESCs from council street lighting upgrades.
