Ironbark frequently contributes reports, information and time to the sector. Over the last decade we have written hundreds of articles, delivered webinars and developed presentations and reports that we have promoted through this website, our newsletter and social media.

On this page you can search through all of these free resources by either high level categories, tags or free search in the search box. You'll see that each resource contains related news so you can explore further.

If you have any questions or can't find what you're looking for you may also want to try the project area links in our main menu bar at the top of the page, otherwise please just contact us. We hope you find valuable information you're after and feel free also to drop us a line with general feedback or suggestions.

Over the last 3 years, Ironbark have worked with 81 Australian councils to develop community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) profiles (or inventories) for their municipality. It’s fair to say that through this process we have learnt a lot about community data and actions and built a wealth of experience for municipalities of all types! We now have a team of 5 staff at Ironbark working in this area. Come along to our webinar on Monday 29th October 2018 to hear some big updates...

It's a special moment for councils around Australia with the 500,000th energy efficient street light installed. Light number 500,000 was installed in the City of Campbelltown in the north-east suburbs of Adelaide, which is fitting given the pace of change and number of LEDs now being installed throughout South Australia due to co-operation between Councils and SA Power Networks, which manages and maintains about 200,000 street lights on behalf of councils and the state government.

Big changes have been announced for South Australian street lighting with the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) confirming that public lighting services in the state will now be regulated and classified as Alternative Control Services (ACS). This a good outcome and will provide a lot more certainty for SA councils, who have clearly suffered through a lack of bargaining power and less control over tariff increase. The ACS model has led to demonstrably better outcomes for Australian councils in...

Ironbark's Paul Brown presented at the WA Local Government (WALGA) Convention in August 2018. The session provided information on what capabilities and capacity currently exists for councils to install and operate their own street lighting and related infrastructure. Things are poised for movement over the next year or so as WA councils and Western Power talk turkey on LED street lighting. We've got LEDs and new tariffs in the wings and some great projects from Esperance and Joondulup which...

In early 2017, Australian local government passed a tremendous milestone with the number of councils that have completed an energy efficient street lighting changeover passing the century mark. There have now been over 462,000 street lights already changed over in Australia to energy efficient alternatives like LED, representing around 18% of all lights and 26% of all residential (or local) roads. While there's still a long way to go, this dwarfs what's happening around the world with only 1% of...
